Embedded systems are microcontroller or microprocessor based systems which are specialised in performing one or a few dedicated functions. Unlike general purpose computers which can perform different tasks depending on the program loaded, the embedded systems are limited to a few dedicated tasks.
Due to their limited functionality , the embedded systems can be designed so that they contain the minimum number of components, which also reduces the cost and size. The embedded systems are usually part of the device they control, and cannot be accessed separately, unless they the device is opened up for troubleshooting by a service technician.
